PMC are proud to announce the launch of the fact®8 – a beautifully poised ATL™ (Advanced Transmission Line) floorstanding model and the first of the exhilarating fact® range that features flexibility of control, chic classic design and an ultimate level of audio transparency.
Over two decades, PMC have earned an unrivalled reputation for creating the world's finest reference loudspeakers for both the discerning professional and consumer sectors. The combination of accumulated technical knowledge and the experience gained has been distilled into the fact® range. The design concept can be summed up in one simple word, purity. In both technical and aesthetic areas the fact® range has been honed to create an effortlessly elegant and flexible solution for the highest level of critical listening in all environments.
The fact® range addresses the issues brought about by the differing sonic signatures of electronics, cables, existing components and most importantly room acoustics. Within the brushed, anodised rear panel of each loudspeaker, are a set of audiophile switches that allow precise and individual tailoring of its low- and high-frequency response, thereby ensuring a superlative sonic balance in almost any room and with any source component. From the calibrated flat setting there are subtle and effective adjustments for high frequency are +/- 2dB and low frequency -3dB and -6dB. Painstaking attention has been given to the control circuit layout and components to provide this no compromise solution.
Through the standardisation of tweeter and bass units, every fact® model is not only visually consistent, but also shares the same acoustic signature. The fact®8 features twin hand-built five and half inch bass units that have been formulated with a new feather light stiff-matte doping process and an excursion braking system that subtly controls the maximum extension allowing consistent, reliable, high level performance. Combining these propriety drivers within a newly formulated ATL™ provides a phenomenal bass extension at all levels and a beguiling untainted mid. The high frequency is capably handled by a high-tech wide surround, ferrofluid cooled, SONOMEX™ soft-domed tweeter. SONOMEX™ is an especially light and phenomenally uniform pre-coated material which has vast advantages over individually treated domes with no variations in coating thickness and in turn no variations in response. This way consistency, efficiency and matching are maximised and guaranteed. This radically shaped devise with its huge surround combines the wide dispersion of a three-quarter inch dome with the low end response and higher sensitivity of a one inch dome and with the addition of its perforated grille further increases dispersion and a vast ‘sweet spot’ making ideal positioning effortless.
PMC’s intimate knowledge of traditional craftsmanship and modern construction techniques allow for exceptional results in cabinet design and with fact®, every element has been considered to enhance performance and aesthetics. Panel flex and its associated colouration has been eradicated while forming the sophisticated ATL™ (Advanced Transmission Line) cabinet with precision machined panels and additional bracing, some as much as 40mm thick. The entire enclosure is prepared both inside and out with veneer that guarantees their stability and long life that provides the ideal, inert platform for the highly potent drive units to deliver pure, uncoloured audio. The hand crafted and lacquered fact® range is available in the sumptuous and contemporary finishes of Rich Walnut, Natural Oak, Tiger Ebony and Graphite Poplar. These hand-selected and matched leaves of the world’s premium veneers are sourced from sustainable forests and their matching ensures each cabinet face appears as a perfect mirror image.
It’s all in the detail - The mixture of tactile, soft surfaces, finely textured fabric, luxurious timber and the lustre of hand polished chrome all create the air of craftsmanship and a mark of taste. Simply removing and replacing the textured grille is a pleasure. Concealed rare-earth magnets embedded within the cabinet, gently pull it towards its resting position, leaving the front baffle unblemished and free from the usual grille mounting points, emphasising the fact® design ethos.
All fact® designs feature extremely accurate and sophisticated crossovers that incorporated steep, 14 element, 24dB per octave filters. Their foundation is a military-grade glass-fibre board, cut in the signature Fact “lozenge” shape, upon which ultra-thick, pure copper tracks are aligned to optimise unrestricted current delivery. Only hand selected, recorded components that have passed extensive comparative listening tests are selected, and even their orientation is carefully evaluated to eradicate any electromagnetic interaction that could potentially impair signal transmission. This holistic approach, where all design elements are treated with the same significance, is a signature of the fact®'s design excellence and guarantees supreme power handling and ultra-low distortion, both of which play a major role in the exceptional natural clarity and wide, three-dimensional soundstage to be enjoyed across a wide listening area.
For the fact® range, a very special binding post has been created that fulfils the brief of untainted signal transfer. The fact® Ag pure silver coated binding post provides the ideal connector for bare wire, 4mm plugs or spade lugs and ensures the transmission of a signal from cable to loudspeaker with absolute transparency.
